Massive shout out to Declan Ryan who will be taking on the #DublinMarathon this weekend! Declan was diagnosed with Lebers Optic Apthropy, a genetic eye disorder which left him with 8% vision at the age of 18 years but he refuses to allow his visual impairment to stop him from achieving any goal that he sets for himself. He took up running after his diagnosis and ran his first marathon in 2009 in Dublin. Since then he has completed 10 marathons with a personal best of 2hrs 59mins and all under no guidance. This year, he's back in Dublin with his local running club, Thurles Crokes AC where he is senior team captain. Declan is not only an inspiration to his sister Aisling but also to her daughter who at the age of 7 joined a running club simply because of her uncle. Every time she competes the first thing that she wants to do is to tell Declan all about it because she looks up to him so much - what an inspiration!! On behalf of the Dublin Marathon team, we'd like to wish Declan the very best of luck for Sunday & we look forward to welcoming you over that finish line.
